We welcome Hendrik Niether to our GPENreformation team!

Dear readers of GPENreformation News, dear members, dear friends, dear ambassadors,

since 03 July 2023 I am strengthening the team of GPENreformation within the project on digital peacebuilding especially with regard to the digital peace handbook and the Edumap.

About myself: I studied history, theology as well as literature and media studies in Kiel, Turku and Hannover. In addition, I worked as a volunteer at the Nordelbische Kirchenarchiv Kiel from 2004 to 2006. During my doctoral studies in Jena and Jerusalem I intensively dealt with Jewish history and memory cultures in the 20th century. Afterwards, I completed a traineeship for grammar school teaching, but without staying in this profession afterwards. Rather I have been working on a project at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the University of Hannover on the theologian Otto Piper, who in 1933, after having taught in Göttingen and Münster, was dismissed by the Nazi regime as a pacifist, social democrat and husband of a Jewish woman, and later taught in exile at Princeton Theological Seminary.

In my private life, as far as my two daughters (11 and 8 years old) allow, I am very interested in music, play instruments myself (electric bass and drums) and enjoy sports (fitness and sailing).

The issue of peace is close to my heart, as are the areas of sustainability, global justice and education. So I am very much looking forward to working with you in these areas.

Hendrik Niether
