The very idea for the Peace Education Period was born at one of the international GPENreformation conferences:
In November 2017, more than 50 school leaders, teachers and education actors met in Kigali/Rwanda to learn about concepts of Peace Education in Protestant schools and to reflect and develop new approaches from a global perspective.
This was followed by a meeting in Arusha, Tanzania, in November 2018 to discuss how the network Ambassadors can become key actors in the development and dissemination of Peace Education, both globally and regionally.
A Conference of Peace that was to take place in Brazil in 2020 had to be postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic and then held digitally. The focus of the series of activities that emerged from this was also slightly changed; instead of “Seeds of Peace”, “Seeds of Hope” in particular were thematised – which nevertheless focused to a particular extent on a peaceful coexistence of people with each other and as part of divine creation.
