15th Bamberg School Leadership Symposium from October 07 to November 11, 2021

15th Bamberg School Leadership Symposium from October 07 to November 11, 2021

Steering and shaping school in uncertain times – society and people in view

“Challenge” is probably one of the most frequently heard terms in the school environment in recent months: Corona, short-termism, conflicting expectations, digitalisation – they all make school leadership demanding and complex. In addition, unforeseen events and social dissent will probably increase rather than decrease in the future.

The 15th Bamberg School Leadership Symposium is dedicated to these multi-layered leadership demands of school leaders. It will be asked: How can we succeed in keeping our own values and pedagogical goals in view in such uncertain times? How can individual teachers be supported and the demand for further development of the school as a whole be implemented? How can school leaders manage the balancing act of taking notice of each individual, granting them personal responsibility and at the same time always ensuring a common consensus?

To ensure that as many school leaders and other interested persons as possible can benefit from current impulses from theory, research and business in their demanding practice, the symposium will be held entirely online this time. Unlike usual, it will not take place over four consecutive days, but over a period of four weeks from October 07 to November 11. Each week will focus on a special aspect of the congress theme:

Theme Week 1 (October 14 to 20):
Being in love with learning: imagining and communicating.
Focusing school leadership on learning: What does learning look like in the future? How to make learning a topic of conversation?

Theme Week 2 (October 21 to 27):
Leading through change: School development as a change process
Change starts with people. Which visions to pursue? How to bring everyone along?

Theme Week 3 (October 28 to November 03):
In the context of diverging social demands: Sustainability!
Those who lead schools should know where society is going or should go. What can the future look like? For which future do we educate?

Theme Week 4 (November 4 to 10):
Self-organisation needs leadership, attitude and personal responsibility
Uncertain times require new leadership approaches and increased competencies in self-direction and self-management. How to take care of yourself and others?

The events will be held in German, but there will be one session in English: “Looking beyond: Global Learning internationally” with Liam Wegimont (Global Education Network Europe; Mount Temple Comprehensive School Dublin, Ireland) on November 02, 2021, 6 to 8 pm CET.

The University of Bamberg cordially invites you to all these events!
