Learning Activity I: Learning about Peace (Information Literacy)

Actually we were supposed to meet in Hungary – first in Budapest, then we wanted to move on to Nyíregyházi to the Evangelicus Kossuth Lajos Gimnázium, who wanted to host the learning activity . An exciting program was worked out, the flights, trains and buses were booked, accommodation was organized.

And then came Corona…

 

After wild deliberations, long e-mails and telephone calls with the National Agency in Germany, the coordinators decided on March 16 to cancel the trip to Hungary. Due to the difficulty of finding dates at all, where all schools can meet outside of exam times and holidays anyway due to the fact that some of the participating students will graduate and leave school in the summer of 2021, it was soon clear that a postponement was not a good alternative. At the same time, however, the desire to avoid simply dropping the planned contents and not to postpone getting to know each other and the “right” start of the project any further became apparent.

After the initial disappointment about the cancellation of a personal meeting was overcome, the participants therefore soon realised: If a project like ours, which is about making teaching, learning and Peace Education digital, is not suitable for discovering and using digital alternatives in an exceptional situation, then what else?
And so the experts from the Berghof Foundation, the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Comenius-Institut and GPENreformation developed a new, purely digital plan that was put into practice from May 11 to 13, 2020.
