Who are you and what is your job?

My name is Pastor Rachel John Axwesso. I am a Deputy  Secretary General For Social Services, Women’s’ Work & Children for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) of which I am currently the Head of the department of social services and women’s’ work and children of which consists of the subunits such as Education, Health and Diakonia, Women & Children’s’ Work, Common-Work institutions, and I am also the chair person of Women Pastors and Theologians of the ELCT. For Health and Diakonia, we have 24 registered hospitals, and about 150 health centers and dispensaries. For education, The ELCT registered Secondary Schools are currently 70 (formerly were 74) following the closing of 4 Schools due to reasons that could not be avoided, mostly insufficient funds for running the schools as the ELCT schools do not get  any support or incentives from the Government.

For the 26 Dioceses, as the head of the department, I and my colleagues, we are also coordinating Women’s’ Work & Children.  I also coordinating and facilitating 3 special schools which are Njombe Deaf School, Mwanga Deaf School, and Lutheran Junior Seminary (Morogoro). Additionally, I am also coordinating issues concerning Women Pastors and Theologians of the ELCT.

GPENreformation means Cooperation, Inclusion and Peaceful methods of Teaching.

 

What does it means for the schools in your region to be part of GPENreformation?

Schools in my region will be able to cooperate with other Protestant schools around the world and commute their experiences peaceful environment for teaching and learning techniques for quality education. This cooperation will make nurture Christianity and Faith for the students.  Children will grow in morality and the word of God.

Through Networking, schools and institutions in my region will be able to see the importance of inclusion in classes and other learning masses during the teaching process to avoid segregation and discrimination of all kinds, thus sharing love throughout students, teaching and non-teaching staffs. This type of methods will give special education students under such conducive and friendly environment more room for productive and peaceful learning.
