Introduction
PSS Bafut is located in Agyati Bafut Sub-Division in the Mezam Division of the North West Region of Cameroon. It is one of the twenty one Protestant Secondary Schools of the Presbyterian Education Authority (PEA) – the education department of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC). PSS Bafut offers inclusive quality Anglo-Saxon education to both boys and girls irrespective of gender, religious, racial, cultural, regional, and linguistic backgrounds.
Creation
PSS Bafut was created on 11th August 1988 by a Ministerial Decision no. 382/J1/7 of Arrete No. 323/J1 of MINEDUC/DEP/SCAFES of 11/08/88 and started operation of 29th October 1988 a co-educational boarding school. It was transformed from a first cycle school to a second cycle school on the 29th June 2004 by Ministerial Order No. 4090/J2/423/MINEDUC/SG/DEP/SDESP/SAAP of 29/06/04

Academics
In line with attaining its mission and vision, it focuses on a holistic education covering quality teaching and learning, democratic principles, and gender issues. PSS Bafut has for over the years been striving to attain excellence. Proof of this is the excellent performances recorded at end of course certificate examinations organized by the Cameroon GCE Board. The first batch of the school wrote the GCE Ordinary Level in 2000 scoring 94.5% and scored 100% in 2001, 2003, 2004. In 2015 and 2016 the school scored 99.17% and 99.27% respectively. Since creation, the performance has stayed between 90% and 100 % at the GCE Ordinary Level. At the Advanced Level, the school sent out the first batch in 2006, which scored 98.56% and thereafter has scored 100% in 2009, 2010, and 2014. In 2014, the school occupied the most cherish and enviable position of Overall First in Cameroon for the GCE Advanced Level, in terms of qualitative and quantitative results. In 2015 and 2016 the school scored 97.37% and 99.08% at the GCE Advanced Level respectively. Most of the graduates have always succeeded in competitive entrance examinations into professional schools and universities in Cameroon and abroad. The alumni have been impacting society in diverse fields of activity. The staff that has been accompanying the students in their academic pursuits comprises of 42 Administrative/ teaching staff and 16 Technical/Support/Catering staff.
The strong positive outcomes realized over the years have, however, witnessed some downturns due to the burgeoning Anglophone crisis that has rocked the English-speaking part of Cameroon since October 21, 2016. This crisis has hit the education system hardest, with students and staff subject to incessant abductions, maiming, killing as well as arson on school infrastructure. This arson was suffered on November 1, 2017. The heightened insecurity forced the school to relocate to Bamenda on October 27, 2018. While in Bamenda, the school suffered attacks from unknown assailants on February 17, 2019, February 28, 2019, and March 25, 2019. The crisis has equally affected enrolment that used to be stable at about 1,200 students to less than 500 today.
Spirituality
The spirituality of the staff and students is reinforced through the Congregation. The functioning of the Congregation facilitated by the Liturgy and constitution of the PCC. It gives opportunity for students to fellowship in the Sunday School (SS), Young Presbyterians (YPs), Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF), and the school choir. The adults of the community exchange in the frame of the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) and Christian Men Fellowship (CMF).
The different Christian movements and groups take part in Christian activities like Bible studies, worship services, evangelization, outreach, participating in zonal and annual rallies to showcase the skills and abilities in Bible studies, singing, and hard skills abilities in handwork among others. Furthermore, the Christian movements and groups provide landscapes for students and staff to sharpen their reflective, reading, and communication skills, build trust/faith and share knowledge. Additionally, these groups also provide settings where the students and staff acquire literacy, music, communication, and interpersonal skills besides learning positive societal values like collaboration, mutual respect, honesty, democracy, equity, and tolerance.
