G.S Kigeme A is the high secondary school managed by the Anglican Church of Rwanda, Kigeme Diocese with collaboration of the Government of Rwanda. It is located in 300 metres very near to the main road from Kigali, Butare, Gikongoro to Cyangugu. It is situated about ten kilometres from Nyamagabe town to Kigeme Diocese Office and near Kigeme Diocese Cathedral and Kigeme Hospital.
‘Groupe Scolaire Kigeme’ started in 1965 as auxiliary instructor. Thereafter it changed its name into ordinary level in 1967 and then in 1970 became Inferior Teacher Training Centre. The first graduation happened in 1972. In 1981, the school became full Teacher Training Centre and finally Groupe Scolaire Kigeme in 1990. The school started only with girls and thereafter integrated boys and became co-educational school. Currently the school counts four options namely MCB (Mathematics-Chemistry-Biology), PCB (Physics-Chemistry-Biology), PCM (Physics- Chemistry-Mathematics) and ordinary level (from senior one to senior three).
GS Kigeme A counts 823 students in which 521 are boys and 302 are girls. The school counts 8 members of staff and 26 teachers. It has also supporting personnel.
Existing cooperations
The school doesn't cooperate with any other private organisation but it presents many projects including rehabilitation of the infrastructure because the infrastructure of the school is very old. The Government of Rwanda only supports by paying monthly teachers and supplying school materials.
