Who are you and what’s your job?

I am Christine Behnken. I have a teaching degree in Chemistry and Theology from Technische Universität Berlin und Freie Universität Berlin and the EST  in Sao Leopoldo (Brazil).
Currently I am the principal of the Evangelische Schule in Berlin-Frohnau, which is connected with the Evangelical school foundation EKBO (Evangelische Kirche Berlin-Brandenburg, schlesische Oberlausitz). The Evangelische Schule Frohnau has more than 80 teachers, educationers and personnel, and approximately 700 students from the ages of 5 to 18 years old.

Tell us in 3 words what GPENreformation means for you!

My three words would be open MIND, gentle HEART and HOPE and TRUST (it means just one word) in a human world with charity although the reality is often different. Wherever we experience a situation of learning and growing, we should fill this not only with our own wants and needs, thoughts, ideas, and intentions, but rather, try to have an OPEN MIND, and HEART and shape our intentions with God and our Neighbor in mind. We can achieve this by paying closer attention in our daily surroundings like the schools and encourage learning and sharing.

What does it mean for the schools in your region to be part of GPENreformation?

There are Protestant schools all over the world and Christians can hold together facing the major challenges of our time. Being in a worldwide community of Christians gives us courage to open hearts and open ourselves to each other. This would be an example for a worldwide cooperation (Oikumene). We want to prepare our students for a changing world and therefore offer them an opportunity  to deal with the world in multitude encounters, different places, various languages, religions and cultures.
