ESR (Evangelische Schüler*innenarbeit im Rheinland e.V. – Protestant Pupils‘ Work in the Rhineland) is an association which has been active in the area of youth work for decades. Its history can be traced back to Bible study groups founded by pupils at the end of the 19th century. Our work is based on Christian values and faith. The association offers seminars and workshops mainly for pupils aged 13 to 20. Our activities are organized and accompanied by salaried employees and volunteers together.

Our holistic approach towards educational work includes a focus on the self-education of young people. Important principles of non-school related youth work applied by us are voluntariness, participation and joint living and learning without performance assessments. We aim to work in a diverse, inclusive and gender-sensitive way, considerate of different circumstances in the lives of our participants and consistent with the ecumenical movement to advocate peace and global justice.

We organize and accompany international and intercultural exchanges with participants from two or more countries. We undertake intercultural work on the ground and conduct peace seminars with school classes. We also train trainers for peace work as “peace makers” and cooperate with partners from Germany and other countries. Salaried employees and volunteers work together on organizing and executing our activities whenever it is possible. In addition, we offer trainings for our volunteers on various subjects.
